There were some questions raised on Sunday when it was apparent Meghan Markle did not appear on the same balcony as the rest of the Royal Family during the remembrance Sunday commemorations in London. Meghan did not appear on the same balcony as the Queen, The Duchess of Cambridge and Cornwall, raising some concerns to why.
The Duchess of Sussex watched the event from the balcony of a separate window outside the Cenotaph war memorial. To the surprise of many on social media, who all thought she would be prominently placed beside The Queen and Duchess of Cambridge. However, it has been known at official events, the Royal Family arranges themselves according to a Royal “pecking order”.
Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, told PEOPLE: “She was not as prominent perhaps as some people might have expected, but there’s a pecking order. There was no slight intended, but William being the older, more senior brother would go out first with his wife. Meghan was still in a good position.”
A palace source according to the Daily Express said: Meghan’s balcony position “would have come from her”. The source added: “There’s no one laying this out, telling her where to stand. And there were a lot of kids, who everyone would want at the front.”
