There has now been suggestions that Boris Johnson is preparing for a general election, it comes as Jeremy Corbyn released a statement which stated he would like to serve as a ‘caretaker’ Prime Minister.
The United Kingdom is meant to leave the European Union on the 31st of October, and Boris has stated that he will take the UK out of the EU “do or die”.
It comes as Jeremy Corbyn could call a vote of no confidence. A vote of no confidence can only be called by the leader of the opposition, Jeremy Corbyn. If the opposition win a vote of no confidence within Parliament, then Boris will have no choice but to call a General Election.
Importantly, if Boris did lose a vote of no confidence, the opposition would have a window of opportunity to form a ‘caretaker’ government. Corbyn has appealed to other members of Parliament to allow him to be the caretaker PM, this would enable him to inhibit the UK from leaving the EU.
Jeremy Corbyn’s ambitions to be a caretaker PM were quickly crushed as key members of Parliament needed to secure such a position said they would not back him. Caroline Lucas and Jo Swindon of the Green and Liberal Democrat’s, respectively, both said they’d not agree to him being temporary PM.
