The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has come under fire for blaming the most recent terrorist attacks on police cuts rather than taking any responsibility himself. It comes as the Mayor faced calls to resign after months of increased crime levels in London with an all right gang war happening on the streets under Khan’s watch.
In his interview with Radio 4, Khan said: “One of the reasons why I’ve been so passionate about arguing for the police to have their cuts reversed is because I know members of the public having confidence with their local police gives them the confidence to report things they find suspicious.” This was in response to why the attacks are taking place, Khan swiftly implying it was done to ‘cuts’ in Police budget, opposed to anything else.
Mr Khan then went on to say that London remains “one of the safest cities in the world” and locals should remain “calm.” He then continued: “I think we are one of the safest global cities in the world. I think people should be reassured by the Police response yesterday.”
