Jacob Rees-Mogg hits back at the European Union over Irish border

Jacob Rees-Mogg has made the European Union leaders take notice, as he demands that they cease efforts to frustrate the Brexit process and resolve the Irish border issue as a matter of urgency.

The Daily Express sent out a reporter to the Swiss border, he was looking to see how Switzerland borders Germany, France and Italy despite being outside the European Union’s customs union, showing there is a will and a way for the UK.

Comedian, Andrew Doyle, supported Mr Rees-Mogg’s comments in the Daily Express, which praised the Swiss’ “extremely effective” border system.

He said: “I’m really wary here because I don’t like to agree with Jacob Rees-Mogg, I’m not a Tory.

“What he is saying is that the EU is continually attempting to frustrate efforts to sort out the issue of the border with Northern Ireland, and he is right.

“The example that he gives is Switzerland. Now Switzerland is part of the Schengen area, it borders four EU countries.

“It’s not part of the customs union, not part of the single market, and yet they find a way to have that frontier.

“It’s not draconian, it is not overly expensive, not the kind of figures people are quoting over here. There is a way if you have the political will to achieve it.”

Mogg added: “As the Daily Express reports the Swiss border is extremely effective. The system has been running for years so it would be possible to have something even more efficient between the UK and the EU.”

“There is no need for a hard border in Northern Ireland, or for controls to be at the border, they can all be arranged remotely.
